Best Mouse for Mac Buying Guide
Choosing the right mouse for your Mac isn't as simple as picking the first one you see online. That can only lead to more frustration, headaches, and worst of all returns. Here's what you should look for in a new mouse:
Compatibility and connectivity
While most new mice are already compatible with macOS, you should still double-check to be sure. Also, check the mouse's connectivity. Is it a wired or wireless mouse? If it's wireless, does it connect via USB receiver, Bluetooth, or both? Can you connect the mouse to more than one device? For some, the most important question is will it let you switch back and forth between Windows and Mac devices?
Comfort and grip style
Are you right or left-handed? Maybe you're one of the one percent of ambidextrous people. Either way, you want to make sure the mouse you pick is comfortable to use. This is especially important especially if you're going to be working all day or night.
Sensors and CPI
Like a camera, the sensor in a mouse detects light reflection and tracks movement. A mouse with a high-level sensor is more accurate and precise. This is why many gaming mice are also perfect fits for graphic designers because of the special sensor technology.
The mouse's sensitivity is measured in CPI (counts per inch). This rating determines the speed that the cursor moves on the screen. While many may think that a higher CPI is better, this may not be right. A higher CPI can lead to an overly sensitive mouse. Some though will use a higher CPI for slower, controlled applications that require perfect precision.
